Simply The Worst

With the hiring of Dale Tallon,. the Florida Panthers are getting a seasoned, talented GM who will no doubt bring glory to their franchise again.  Tallon did a fine job with the Hawks and is responsible for most of the cast and crew in place right now.

But some Chicago executives, coaches and managers haven't been as lucky or as good as Tallon.  Here's a list of some of the worst:

  • Larry Himes (Cubs GM):  Had a great run with the White Sox drafting the nucleus of the 90's teams.  Moved on to the Cubs and could have kept Greg Maddox for a million more, but didn't.
  • Lee Elia (Cubs Manager): More famous for his rant against fans then he was for anything he ever did on the field.
  • Alpo Suhonen (Hawks Coach): Doesn't your dog team deserve Alpo? After recording a 29-41-8 record, the answer was no.
  • Mike Smith (Hawks GM): Lover of all things Scandinavian, be it furniture, art, music or hockey players.
  • Don Baylor (Cubs Manager): Cub fans couldn't wait for him to be fired to be replaced by*. . .
  • Dusty Baker (Cubs Manager): Took the Cubs to five outs of the NL pennant, then proceeded to blow up one of baseball's best young pitching staffs.
  • Terry Bevington (White Sox Manager) Um, Skip, it's hard to bring in a pitcher from the pen when you don't have one warming up.
  • Tim Floyd (Bulls Coach): I guess since the players were already being payed, there wasn't  any other way for him to motivate them.  Never got out under the shadow of being thought of as Jerry Krause's lackey.
  • Dave Wannstedt (Bears Coach) The pieces were all in place.  What place, no one is quite sure.  What is sure is that Stuttering Dave lasted a lot longer than he should have, especially in light of his 1-11 record against Green Bay.
  • Hawk Harrelson (GM White Sox) Fired the Genius, then traded for Jose DeLeon who was 1-19 the year before.  And who did he trade?  Some guy named Bonillia.  Hawk, grab some bench!
And the king of failures, the numero uno, top dog and undefeated champion:
  • Bob Pulford (VP Hawks): The only thing I can think of that kept this guy employed for 27 years was that he had a compromising picture of Bill Wirtz with a bard yard animal.  And when Bill passed away and the picture was worthless, Rocky Wirtz wisely re-assigned him to a custodial job at Wirtz Distributing.  This guy is the poster child for fail.

What do you think?  Who should be on the list?  Let us know!
