Sox Give Danks For Big Lead

Yeah, so it was only the Indians last night, but at least the Sox took advantage of a struggling pitcher instead of making him into a Cy Young candidate.  Justin Masterson had absolutely nothing last night and the Sox called him on it with four runs in the first inning.  A good win for the Sox, especially coming off the butt whipping they got Sunday from Miami Florida.

Masterson was almost Arne Munoz bad last night, especially against lefties who he just couldn't get out in the first inning.  I mean, when you get lit up by both Mark Kotsay and Mark Teahen in the same inning, it means you couldn't hit your butt with your left hand.

While this was a nice win and the Sox third in their last four and fourth in their last seven, there are still a few things I wish would have gone differently last night:

  • John Danks-When your offensively challenged team gives you a four run lead, you have to last more than five innings.  In the fourth and fifth innings, Danks almost looked like he wanted to give it back.  However, the Indians couldn't get a big hit in the fourth (it's fun watching it happen to someone else) and in the fifth, he would have gotten off the hook it it wasn't for his defense. Still, this should have been a game where Danks should have lasted at least seven innings.
  • After the Hawks are done with their run for the Stanley Cup, they should hire Dustin Byfuglien to stand out at third base with Mark Teahen and collect the rebounds.  Teahen will never conjure up images of Joe Crede but does bring to mind the nightmare that was Wilson Needsabettermitt. Isn't this why Josh Fields was banished to KC?
The good news, the Savior seems to be hitting again.  We'll see tonight when Jake Peavy, who needs to walk the walk, faces Mitch Talbot.   With all due respect to Jake Peavy, I think his "dirtbags" and "we have to win now" comments are great, so long as he leads by example.  Giving up a crap load of runs to the Angels in the first inning is not leading by example.
