I'm Sorry Dave, I Can't Do That
In a surprise to no one, Baltimore Orioles manager Dave Trembley was dismissed after the O's started off 15-39. But that's not the story.Trembley is a man who spent years riding buses in the minor leagues, finally getting a chance at the bright lights and the big cities of the major leagues. While he didn't have the greatest record in the world, the team supplied to him was less than acceptable, especially in the majors best division. When you play the Yankees, Red Sox, Rays and Blue Jays a minimum of 15 games a year, you are going to lose if you have less than major league talent.
Andy MacPhail is doing the same thing in Baltimore that he did in Chicago, that is making a mess of things. It doesn't matter if Juan Samuel or Samuel Langhorne Clemmens is the next manager of the O's, they will continue to stink until they are adequately supplied with big league talent. Competitive big league talent. Don't believe me? How 'bout them
As for Trembley, he'll go back to the minors or become a bench coach and perhaps get another shot at managing when whomever he is working for gets canned. Or, he won't manage again. Regardless, he probably won't be in high demand.
I hate it when someone who has worked his whole life to achieve something and fails when he gets what may be his only chance. Good luck, Dave. I hope you get another opportunity somewhere along the road.
