Chip Shots: Because You're Mine, I Change The Lines: Q-Stache Brings Blackhawks One Game Closer
Because You're Mine, I Change The Lines: Q-Stache Brings Blackhawks One Game Closer
Congrats to Chicago Blackhawks coach Q-Stache. Faced with a two game losing streak, he threw his lines up in the air and made several changes that resulted in a 7-4 game four win over the Philadelphia Flyers. Highlights?
The Hawks came out with more "jump" in the first period than in any time during the playoffs. They peppered Flyers goalie Michael Leighton mercilessly, scoring three first period goals. The Flyers played the entire first period on their heels.
Philadelphia came back at the very beginning of the second period with a goal, but the Hawks neutralized it with one of their own a couple of minutes later.
The biggest goal of the game and a possible key point in the series was the Hawks fifth goal, scored right in front of the net by the much maligned Dustin Byfuglien. Big Buff was a huge factor in the game with a goal and two helpers. Where was Byfuglien's mortal enemy Chris Pronger while Big Buff was standing in front of the net? In the penalty box.
Big Buff also gets some points for whacking back at Pronger.
Another turning point in the game was at the beginning of the second period when Flyers coach Peter Lavolette yanked stating goalie Michael Leighton after Leighton had gvien up three goals in the first period. Brian Boucher didn't do much better, giving up four himself. The key here is that the Hawks are now in Leighton's head, which is not good this deep in a final series.
Pronger was a -5 last night. Love him or hate him, he's going to be in the hall of fame, possibly in his first year of eligibility.
If the Hawks can sustain both the momentum and the level of energy they had in the first period of this game, they'll be skating the cup around Wachoiva Center Wednesday night. BTW, the last time a Chicago team won a championship, it was on a Wednesday night on the road.
Isn't ironic that when the Q-Stache changes the lineup and things work he's hailed as a hero, yet Ozzie and Lou try everything to get their clubs going and they get ripped on by fans? I'm just sayin'.
