Quickshots: Your Anti-Cub Bias Is Showing

  • Somebody who is obviously under the age of forty posted the following dribble on the "Sox and the City" message board: "The Chicago Tribune just won't quit. They continue to keep trying to get Ron Santo into the Hall Of Fame. The marble-mouthed oaf doesn't deserve inclusion and has been voted so many times over. The Chicago Media have actually called for a rule-change will will now make it "easier" for him to get in ..... which is no consolation."   Obviously, this person probably started watching baseball in the mid-eighties and never saw Ron Santo play .  This explains their total ignorance of the subject.  P.S. Judging Santo the ballplayer by Santo the announcer is absolutely asinine.  It's not like the Sox have great radio announcers either.
  • Stu Scott gives ESPN a big "booyah!" for their LaBron spectacular .  You can release your lips now, Stu. And, wipe your chin while you're at it.
  • The Bears continue their training camp and I don't even care.  With this year designated as the "Lovie Smith Farewell Tour" and the Blackhawks having to hock everything to get under the salary cap, Chicago's best chance at postseason glory firmly resides with the White Sox.  I live in Packer country and I promise you when it comes to the Bears, I will be as far under the radar as possible to hide my embarrassment.  And make no mistake, this year will be brutal.
  • Ozzie makes a valid point in his latest sermon from the mount about the Asians get better treatment from the Hispanics.  Unfortunately, he only makes half a point.  While it's true the Latinos are recruited young and toil in the minors, most of the Asians are established stars in Japan or Korea who can name their own price and their own terms (like the team providing an interpreter.  And come on Oz, there is probably a better chance of someone on a team, a player, coach or manager who speaks Spanish as opposed to Japanese.   He is correct that a lot of these kids get dumped in the low minors with no support from the teams.  No matter whether he is right or wrong, his comments are sure to not only bring fire from critics but get all of the acid tongues wagging about what a tool they think Ozzie is.  Ozzie really does bring it on himself, but you have to appreciate his brutal honesty.
  • It will be interesting to see what the Sox do when and if they recall Carlos Torres to pitch in the second game of tomorrow's doubleheader vs. Detroit.  My guess is they send Eric Threets down, but then again, if they do that, I think they have to wait ten days to recall him, which would leave them one left-hander short in the bullpen.  This could cause some problems unless they activate Torres, have him pitch the one game and then promote Chris Sale.  Sale has a combined ERA of 2.61 in ten innings pitched at Winston-Salem and Charlotte.  It might be a good time to try the kid out in August and see if he can help out during the stretch drive.
  • Phil Rogers is all verklempt this morning because Daniel Hudson pitched a good game for Arizona yesterday.  Can we at least see a couple starts from Edwin Jackson before we pass judgment on the deal, please?
  • Not a shot, just an observation.  The Cubs, under the direction of Alan Trammel, lost two close games to Colorado.  Isn't that what got him fired in Detroit and the reason no one touts him as a managerial candidate anymore?  Just sayin.
