Battle Of The Soxs: Red Could Spoil It For White
It's a big weekend for the Chicago White Sox as they play a three game series in Boston against the once mighty Red Sox. The Red Sox have been hampered by injuries all season and are all but out of the conversation for the AL East title or the wild card. The Bosox are currently eight games off the pace which is a lot farther away than the 3½ games the White Sox are behind Minnesota.
The best news for the White Sox is that the Twins are playing their next three games in Texas against the Rangers who have done very well against AL Central teams this year. If the White Sox can continue to play with urgency they played with in Cleveland and the Rangers can come through, being a game and a half out on labor day isn't out of the question.
The key for the White Sox is to keep the offensive pressure up on their opponents. They can't just score early in the game and expect the starters and the bullpen to hold serve the rest of the game, they have to score early, late and often and drive in clutch runs. This is why having Manny Ramirez on the team may be huge, because he is one of the best clutch hitters in the game.
I have no idea how it's going to go this weekend, but I'm sure I'll be on pins and needles as most White Sox fans will be. Boston really is playing spoiler at this point and, with any luck, the White Sox wil live to fight another day after this weekend series. If the White Sox can get some momentum and then take three of four in their next series with Detroit, they should be in pretty good shape going into their homestand with Kansas City and the big standoff with Minnesota.
Don't stop now boys.
