CLEAR: White Sox Enough To Stop Your Heart
Among those who may profit from the 2010 Chicago White Sox are cardiologists who probably have been called to see several patients over the weekend. With four improbable, nail biting, heart pounding victories over Boston (3) and Detroit (1), it's a wonder the entire Sox fan base isn't hooked up to a heart monitor.
Beginning Sunday afternoon, when the White Sox refused to lose despite serial Sox killer Victor Martinez's best efforts to yesterday when it took a tying run in the ninth and a winning run in the tenth, the Sox have suddenly found the magic that most fans were waiting for. Finally, after a series of close losses to Baltimore and the Yankees, the Sox got some clutch hits to help them win a few games. The downside is that the Twins have also been winning, which means the Sox have been holding serve, not gaining ground.
The clock is ticking as the Sox play at Detroit tonight. Thank goodness this is September and Ozzie has a bench full of call ups to help extend the roster. He's gotten the most out of them using them not only for defense but for pinch running.
It's coming down to that three game series next week at U.S. Comiskey Park. If the Sox can pick up a game or two prior to that series, it will be a very interesting week next week. One thing is for certain: This Sox team will not go down without a fight.
