White Sox Fade Into Oblivion. What Awaits in 2011?

The Minnesota Twins can wrap up the AL Central as early as tonight, but even if it Wednesday or Thursday or Friday, the 2010 White Sox are done and out of the playoffs.

Now, most of the questions and the buzz is what is going to happen in 2011?  Here's what I would do if I were Kenny Williams:

See You In March

Alex Rios, Juan Pierre, Alexi Ramirez, Gordon Beckham, Pink Gavin Floyd, Mark Buehrle, Jake Peavy, Chris Sale, Edwin Jackson, Matt Thornton, Brent Lillibridge.Brent Morel, Sergio Santos, Freddie Garcia (only if he wants to pitch out of the pen and spot start.  Otherwise, see ya.)

Don't Let It Hit You Where The Good Lord Split You

Mark Kotsay, Andruw Jones, Manny Ramirez, Tony Pena, Ramon Castro, Bobby Jenks, Scott Linebrink (even if it means eating the remainder of his contract.)

Paul Konerko, A.J. Pierzynski, J.J. Putz, Omar Vizquel.

For Sale, Cheap

Mark Teahen, Carlos Quentin

Please Bring me for Christmas

Carl Crawford

  • The "core" is pretty good, provided you re-sign Paulie and A.J.   I think if the Sox make Paulie a reasonable offer, he comes back.  He's not looking for a huge payday, just fair market value.  A.J. should come pretty cheap considering no one really wants him.  You also want J.J. Putz back if possible as he'll be even stronger next year.  And Omar is a terrific asset in a lot of ways.
  • I'm tired of Carlos Quentin and his over thinking everything into prolonged slumps.  Let him pout ofr the Nationals or some other team that needs a 25-30 home run guy who plays the outfield like a cigar store Indian.
  • Mark Teahen can't field his weight and with Brent Morel developing nicely,he isn't needed. I think the plan for Teahen next year is to turn him into Mark Kotsay, a fill in at first and in the outfield and a DH.  I think the Sox can do better.
  • As much as Bobby Jenks has meant to this team, it's time.  Let him move on and regain his form.  Chris Sale has the potential to be a terrific closer.  Notice I said Sale and not Sergio Santos who can serve in a setup role.
  • I would not be adverse to trading John Danks.  His contract will eventually be a big problem for the Sox as I believe he will never sign an extension but play the open market when he gets enough service time.  You've already got Floyd and Peavy locked in for a few more years, Buerhle probably gets one more extension and if Edwin Jackson pitches well, he might get one as well.  That leaves the fifth slot open for a youngster or a free agent pick-up.
  • Dear Santa, all I want for Christmas is Carl Crawford.  He's everything the Sox need.  He's left handed, hits for power and average and could be lethal 1-2 with Juan Pierre.  Make it so, Kenny.  My gut says Crawford winds up in Anaheim.
  • The Sox need to develop a catcher. I don't care if it is Tyler Flowers or Josh Phegley, but they need someone to eventually take over for A.J. The fact that no one is ready is another reason to re-sign A.J.
  • I agree the Cuban Sandwich is at least a year away from the bigs.  He's a DH, pure and simple.  There just simply won't be room for him next year, especially if Quentin is traded or upgraded.
