March Madness Bay-Bee. But Where?
It's the first day of the NCAA basketball tournament and for years,we've been trained to turn on CBS. In the last few years, extra games have been available on your local affiliate's HD sub channel, allowing a second game to be broadcast.Back in the day, the best way to watch the tournament was to go to a bar that had a satellite and you could watch all the games at once. When I was in Nashville, there was this sports bar out in Franklin that had us out there every year. Two days of bar-food, bay-bee. The guy (I think his name was Stave) had great burgers.
One of the things I know about the first day of the tournament is that if you work in an office with outside sales people, watch how many of them go out on an "appointment" at 10:30 and then don't come back until 4:30 smelling like wings, beer (and back in the day, smoke.) If you want to have a sales meeting today, you might want to hold it at noon at Hooters.
Today starts a new era in NCAA TV. Not only is CBS bringing you the games, you can also find them on TNT, TBS and TRU TV. This is confusing and annoying. I don't mind the cutaways unless I had a dog in the hunt and my dogs have been out of the hunt for a few years now. I don't mind just watching the second half of a game. It's basketball for crying out loud. Basketball is about the last two minutes of the game. The other thirty-eight minutes put me to sleep.
Now, it's going to be spread out all over the place, hither and yon. I have no idea if they will cut to CBS from TNT if there is an upset brewing or just tell us when it's over. Belmont is playing Wisconsin on TRU TV, the crime channel (too bad Dominick Dunn is dead. He could have been the sideline reporter. ) If Belmont is upsetting Wisconsin, will the TNT and TBS viewers get to see it? Will they be advised where they can find it?
Or will TNT and TBS just run their games without regard to the rest of the tournament? Do I get TRU-TV in HD on my TV? I couldn't even tell you where to find it right now on the basic band.
This ought to be an interesting night among viewers trying to watch the games. I can't wait to hear their feedback.
Asa for me, I'm ready to go. I just had the guy out yesterday to re-install the Gus Johnson mute chip. Bring the madness. bay-bee.
