Quick Shots: White Sox Feel Discomfort

  • The White Sox can't put a complete game together.  When they get good pitching, they can't hit.  When they hit, the bullpen blows up.  Last night, they got neither and lost 5-0 to Tampa Bay.  Don't blame the weather, the game was played indoors.  At this point, all you can do is keep mounting the horse and riding.  One thing is for sure: What seemed like a promising season after the first two games has turned into more questions than answers.
  • Adding to their woes, Jake Peavy left a rehab start after only fifteen pitches due to what has only been determined "discomfort."  No one is use of where or what and no one is talking.  It's almost like Donald Rumsfeld is handling the P.R.  More will be known today but one thing is fairly certain: You can kiss Peavy's projected return day of April 29th goodbye.
  • Matt Thornton was brought in last night in a low leverage situation last night and still gave up a home run. The issue with Thornton seems to be in his head, not his harm.
  • I wouldn't worry too much about Cleveland and Kansas City.  They most likely will be in their normal positions by the end of the year.  Although, stranger things have happened.
  • The Blackhawks are on the brink of ending their Stanley Cup defense.  Vancouver is using the same tactics the Hawks successfully used last year to just beat the living tar out of them.  No matter how tough the Hawks get in game four, coming back from three games down is almost impossible.  At least I got the gear while there was still time.
  • Okay, I admit it, I've been watching the Bulls.  It's kind of funny how much Bulls fans have been whining about how poorly they perceive the Bulls to be playing against the 8th seeded Pacers.  Look kids, the rule in the playoffs is survive and advance and the Bulls are up 2 games to none.  That's better than your local hockey team is doing, so please, get over yourselves.
  • My NBA finals dream match up would be the Bulls vs. the Lakers just so I could watch Big Chief Triangle stick it to his former employers.  That would be sweet.
  • The Bears are preparing for making their picks in the NFL Draft.  If I were them, I'd take Gabe Carimi of Wisconsin, an offensive lineman with a high upside, especially the ability to play in crappy weather. Of course, Bears GM Jerry Angelo will probably take a tight end just because he can.  I sure hope the NFL gets their labor issues worked out or this whole draft is just a moot exercise.
  • In his recent SI column, Peter King talked to NFL Films President Steve Sabol who is fighting a brain tumor.  Sabol's goal is to live long enough to be the induction speaker when his dad, Ed, the founder of NFL Films, is inducted into the HOF in August.  I sure hope so.
