Quick Shots: See You In Hell, Bin Laden
- Congratulations to all involved in the foregone conclusion of Osama Bin Laden. It doesn't matter if you are a lefty, a righty or in between, the death of Bin Laden has to bring a smile to your face. Look, I know you aren't supposed to revel in the loss of human life, but this guy wasn't human. He masterminded plots that killed thousands of Americans and deserved what he got, a bullet in the head. Unfortunately, the death of one man can in no way atone for the thousands of lives he ordered snuffed out.
- The problem now is that many Americans will assume that since Bin Laden is gone, it's time to sound the all clear. Not so fast my friend. The world is full of people who hate our guts and if anything, being extra cautious is a good thing. So, the next time a TSA guy grabs your junk, understand we're doing it for safety sake.
- So far, the theme song for the 2011 Chicago White Sox is not "All In" bu Lifehouse, but "Free Fallin'", by Tom Petty. And, after losing five in a row and looking pathetic and heartless in the process, the Sox are have one left with Baltimore and then stare down the barrel of a gun known as the Twinkies. Minnesota has been struggling too, so if one team can sweep the other, it may serve as a foot hold to get them going. Yes, I know what day it is and yes I know that it is a marathon not a sprint, but if there were ever three games that could turn this thing around, it is these three.
- You know your team is struggling at the plate when Might Mouse has as many home runs as the Big Donkey. Brett Lillibridge has hit three homes this year, as many as Adam Dunn and two more than Alex Rios. Scary.
- In any case, 2011 is looking like 2010, but there is a difference. Fans won't buy into hope and faith two years in a row and will not show up until this team starts playing up to its' capability. That being said, if attendance lags because they stink, you can pretty much say goodbye to several players after this season as the Chairman will pare the payroll back to 2003 levels. And this time, he might have a point.
- I'm glad the Bears took Gabe Carimi with their first pick. That was my first choice. The guy is nasty. He and Olin Kruetz will get along great.
- Sorry to see the Hawks go out so early in the playoffs, but they'll be back. Just the fact they won a cup in the recent past is happiness enough for me.
- The team the bandwagon jumpers are currently riding with, the Bulls, open the second round of the Miami Heat invitational against Atlanta. Unless the Hawks can come up with some physical play in a hurry, the Bulls should take it in five.
- What astounds me about the NBA playoffs, is that there is a team from Memphis playing a team from Oklahoma City. When did the NBA become the Arena Football League?
