Quick Shots Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad (But It Ain't Great Either)
- The Chicago White Sox opened their "Stayin' Alive tour Friday night in Detroit. After beating up Justin Verlander Friday night and winning on Saturday, the Sox couldn't seal the deal yesterday en route to a 4-3 loss. The Sox are three under and four back this morning and lost the opportunity to gain a game on Cleveland who lost to Baltimore yesterday.
- Adam Dunn contributed to the Sox wins Friday and Saturday and looks a little more comfortable at the plate (he's making more contact anyway.) Hopefully, that's the calm before his storm.
- The Sox got outstanding pitching from Gavin Floyd Friday and Edwin Jackson Saturday. Phillip Humber looked unhittable in the first inning yesterday, but faded in the heat by the sixth. Of course, his defense didn't help him much and his offense helped him less, even after they got him a three run lead.
- It seems like the NFL could settle their labor issues by the end of the week. If that is true, send Roger Goodell to Washington and let him take a shot at the budget crisis.
- For some reason, Fox thought people in Wisconsin would care about the Red Sox and D-Rays Saturday afternoon, even though the White Sox and Tigers were also being broadcast by Fox. So much for regional telecasts. I am so sick of ESPN, FOX and the MLB network running one of the following teams at all times: Phillies, Yankees, Red Sox, Mets or Dodgers. It is getting really bad.
- The Chicago Cubs are now twenty games under .500 and it's only July 18. 103 years and counting.
- The Milwaukee Brewers have reclaimed first place in the NL Central with a couple of thrilling wins in Colorado. Their trade for K-Rod has paid huge dividends his first couple of appearances. Now if Ryan Braun can get healthy. I really like the makeup of this team and how they play. I hope they can win the division and make a playoff run before they lose all their free agents.
- Now that the USA soccer run is over, can we get back to ignoring soccer? I didn't watch the game (it's soccer), but I read somewhere that the US lost because they couldn't convert on several scoring opportunities (of course, several is soccer probably is three.) Again, I ask the question: HOW DO YOU MISS A NET THAT BIG?
- Harry Potter is to Gen X as Star Wars is to baby boomers. But I have a question. Is the $158 million it took in over the weekend based on $10 tickets? Because if it is, more of us saw Star Wars.
- How hot and miserable was it in Wisconsin yesterday? It was more comfortable in Alabama yesterday. Maybe Al Gore was on to something. Nah.
