We Will Not Go Quietly
Just when you thought it was safe to turn your attention to the NFL, the Chicago White Sox begin to show signs of coming out of their season long slumber. The question on the minds of Sox fans is this the proverbial chasing down of the horse after the barn door has been left open far too long?I guess the answer is very simple: Keep winning and good things could happen. Sure, the Sox are still four games behind Detroit and one game under .500, but in the AL Central, that's no big deal. Especially since the Tigers and Indians aren't the Red Sox or Yankees.
A week ago, these thoughts were almost unthinkable as a talented and surging Yankee team arrived at U.S. Comiskey Park and spanked the Sox in four straight games. Perhaps the utter embarrassment of that series is what has fired this team up over their last five games. Or, it could be, that the Twins and Orioles are just phoning it in, knowing that they are playing for draft position. While that could be true of Baltimore, I would be shocked if that were the attitude in Minnesota.
The pitching has been good, the bullpen has been better and the offense is finally starting to hit home runs and get those pesky two out hits. One thing is for sure, this team has not consistently hit on all cylinders this season, but if could actually get the engine started and finally get the bus out of the barn, they could beat some people. Whether or not they have enough in the tank to overtake the Tigers is a subject of debate. One thing is for sure, in a playoff scenario, the Sox match up pretty well against anyone.
