There's No Place Like Home-Except The Road

Maybe Chicago White Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf should use his considerable clout and political capital to make a phone call to his old friend MLB Commissioner Bud Selig and request that the rest of the White Sox games be played on the road. It seems like that would be a good way to insure that his team make the playoffs this season.

In case you've been spending your time listening to Darryl Drake rant, let me get you up to speed.  The White Sox just completed a 6-1 road trip with a three game sweep of Minnesota and  three out of four in Baltimore. a place where their divisional hopes usually go to die.  The Sox now come home to start a nine game home stand against Kansas City, Cleveland and Texas.  The Sox are 34-27 on the road but only 24-32 at U.S. Comiskey Park.

The Sox are four games behind the Central leading Tigers, but could turn it around quickly with a successful home stand.  It may be their last stand if they kick the can again at home.

Kansas City is out of it, but for some reason they play the Sox tough.  Cleveland is sputtering, but the Sox have made them the one divisional opponent they have had success against.  Texas is good, but not a great road team.

As strange as it sounds, it would be nice if there were more road games on the schedule for the Sox.  That said, if they can stay hot over the next nine games, people will stop wondering if the Sox can challenge for the the Central.  Over the next nine games, Detroit plays Baltimore, Minnesota and Cleveland, so it is conceivable that the Sox could gain some ground.

It's getting to a point where if this team wants to win, they need to play with some urgency, especially at home.  It would be nice if it started with a sweep of the Royals.
