White Sox, Umber Fall To Indians
So much for wining a critical series in August. The Chicago White Sox were beaten last night by Cubs castoff Koske Fukudome and the Cleveland Indians, who apparently are not ready to slip quietly into the night.
The top story was that White Sox pitcher Phillip Humber was hit in the forehead with a line drive off the bat of Fukudome. Humber bounced back up, but the Sox felt it best to remove him from the game. Unfortunately, the bullpen wasn't very sharp and down the Sox went 4-2.
The White Sox are now back below .500 and trail the Tigers by four games and the Indians by 2½. They open a series against Texas tonight.
They had better hope that Jake Peavy can pitch lights out, because between the fourteen inning game Tuesday night and last night's bullpen use due to Humber leaving the game early, the Sox pen probably needs a night off. Or at least a few of the pitchers do. Zach Stewart pitched Wednesday and yesterday and will most likely not be available for long relief should Peavy falter early.
