Butkus D. Dogg's Friday Fearless Forecast (Week 9)
There's an old saying: Don't get too full of yourself. Last week I did and then I paid the price, going 5-5 last week (although I was one dropped hail Mary away from being 6-4.) Still, I'm 58-19 on the year and ready to come back with a vengeance.Today, the Fat Dog and I are going to the dog doctor because I have to get some shots. That means I have to ride in the car. The Fat Dog loves riding in the car. The bald guy takes him along all the time when he runs errands. Then, The Fat Dog tells me all about his trip. Like, he went one place where the bald guy stuck a hose in the car. And while the bald guy was inside the store, he barked at an old lady. And, on and on.
Me in the car, not so much. I prefer being stationary and not tooling around at high speeds in a crushable metal object. In fact, I hate it so much I usually toss my cookies, which is why the bald guy never takes me anywhere. I'm not proud of it, but we all have our faults. I just hope I don't throw up when I see the results of my picks later this weekend.
Five college, five pro, straight up. Here's hoping we all keep our stomach contents down:
College
- Arkansas vs. Vanderbilt: Vandy has improved a lot under first year coach James Franklin. Watching them play football is kind of like that TV show, "The Big Bang Theory" they are a bunch of nerds with an attitude. Still, Arkansas has way too many ways to hurt them. Take Arkansas.
- Nebraska vs. Michigan State: This is a pretty fair matchup. Michigan State is coming off a huge last second win over Wisconsin while Nebraska is coming off a pistol whipping of Minnesota. This game could go either way, but I like Sparty a little bit better. Take Michigan State.
- Florida vs. Georgia: Mark Richt needs a win over the Gators to keep his job. Florida needs a win over Georgia because they need a win. This is always a great game, once called "The world's largest outdoor cocktail party." Both of these teams have under performed this year, but this is the year Georgia gets over the Florida hump. Take Georgia.
- Stanford vs. USC: No doubt Monte Kiffin will have some surprises in store for Standford Quarterback Andrew Luck. Will Luck's luck have run out against the Trojans? Not so fast my friend. Take Stanford.
- Wisconsin vs. Ohio State: Wisconsin lost last week on a hail Mary with no time left on the clock. Ohio State has lost 3 games this year and is still feeling the after effects of Tresselgate. I'm probably swimming upstream here, but Wisconsin is pretty good. Take Wisconsin.
Pro
- Minnesota vs. Carolina: I hope to God this game isn't broadcast in our area because my eyes would burn watching it. If Quarterback is the most important position on the field, then Carolina is the best dog in this hunt. Take Carolina.
- Detroit vs. Denver: Detroit has lost their last two and must go to the thin air of Denver to face a Bronco team now being led by Tim Tebow. Although Tebow pulled off a miracle last weekend, this weekend they may be scraping him off the turf. Detroit has a quick defensive line which won't allow Tebow to get away. Take Detroit.
- Jacksonville vs. Houston: The Jags won a big one last week and the Texans proved that despite all their injuries they can still win big. I think the Texans running game will wear down the Jags defense in what should be a nasty game. Take Houston.
- New England vs. Pittsburgh: The Steelers are known for a lot of things and losing to Tom Brady and the Patriots is one of them. Take New England.
- Dallas vs. Philadelphia: The Cowboys won a big game last weekend while the Eagles were off. People keep waiting for the Eagles to turn the corner and salvage the season. This may be their corner. Take Philly.
