Quick Shots: ESPN's Man Crush On Rodgers Is Worse Than Favre
- I thought for sure when Brett Favre moved on that we had heard the last of ESPN's open man love for a Green Bay quarterback. However, with Aaron Rodgers playing out of his mind, it is even worse. And, when you are a Bear fan living in Wisconsin, it's tough to deal with.
- Speaking of the Packers, the question you have to ask yourself after last night's game is are the Packers that good or are the Vikings that bad. For a team led by a couple of former Bears, the Vikings sure need to learn how to tackle. Here's a hint fellas: Go for the legs.
- The Bears looked impressive against the Lions on Sunday. Even though the offense didn't click, the defense was very Bear like and the special teams were very good. If the Bears could just get all three units working at the same time, they might wind up in the playoffs.
- The Cardinals take a page out of the Kenny-Chairman playbook and hired inexperienced Mike Matheny as the next manager. The big question is not will he be a success, but will Albert Pujols think enough of him to want to re-sign with the Cards. Pujols is thought to have favored third base coach Jose Oquendo.
- I still think the White Sox will find a way to re-sign Mark Buehrle. He means a lot to them in terms of box office and that is more important to them than winning.
- I'm of the opinion that the Florida Marlins are romancing all of the major free agents and offering them a little less than they want to encourage their fan base to purchase season tickets. If you thought you would get to see Albert Pujols for 81 games a year, wouldn't you plunk down the money now before the seats all get taken? It's a brilliant marketing strategy, but I think at the end of the day, the Marlins will still be the Marlins.
- I think I've hit my Penn State saturation point. It's bad enough it's all over the sports news, but when the Sunday talking heads start babbling about it, it becomes hard to deal with. Christiane Amanpour wouldn't know who Joe Paterno was if he walked up behind her and tapped her on the shoulder. Bob Costas did a nice job last night.
- The Chicago Black Hawks are off to a nice start. Maybe if the NBA doesn't have a season, hockey will continue its' growth in the market. I hope so. And, I hope the NBA never comes back.
- I like how Bob Knight and Coach K have made nice as Coach K is about to pass him for most career wins. I know there was a rift between them at some point, but it seems like Coach Knight has backed off a bit. Besides, it is a ready for ESPN event and I'm sure Coach Knight is enjoying the attention.
- The more Steve Williams goes on about Tiger Woods, the bigger ass he becomes. Here's a guy who got to ride on the coattails of an all time great, making tons of money and getting fame in the process. Yet, he whines and cries and makes racist comments. This isn't about Tiger, Steve. This is about the fact that someone needs to take you over their knee.
