Butkus D. Dogg's Friday Fearless Forecast (Week 14)

Hello again and happy after Thanksgiving.  Another hot week last week, 9-1, which raises my total to 97-33 and continues my best year ever.

I'm sad this week because this is the last week of college football for awhile.  Of course, the bowl games are coming soon and I'll have my annual bowl spectacular sometime around the middle of the month.  Still, I will miss sitting on the arm of the Bald Guy's chair watching college football on Saturday. Back to cooking shows, I guess.

The good news is that there are several conference championship games on TV this weekend.  The bad news is that some of them involve Gus Johnson.  I would rather listen to a continuous loop of the Fat Dog whining for food than listen to that blowhard call any kind of game.  And some of these younger bloggers LOVE him. I can't figure out these kids.  Of course, at 42 (in people years) I am quickly becoming a grumpy old man.

You know the drill, five college, five pro, straight up.  Let's get to work.:

College

  • UCLA vs. Oregon: UCLA's coach has been fired and Oregon is fired up for an opportunity to go to the Rose Bowl.  My only question is how can you have a Pac 10 championship game without Stanford?  Oh well.  Take Oregon.
  • Southern Miss vs. Houston:  If Houston wins, there's half a chance that they could get a BCS bowl bid.  Remember, however, this is C-USA, probably at the bottom of the BCS food chain.  Most likely, the biggest winners in this game are Southern Miss coach Larry Fedora and Houston Coach Kevin Sumlin, both of whom will be moving on to higher profile jobs next season. Take Houston.
  • LSU vs. Georgia: If Georgia pulls an upset, this could be an even bigger monkey wrench in the BCS system than there is right now with the potential title match between LSU and Alabama. Of course, Georgia just happens to be the SEC school that has given Les Miles the most trouble.  That said, Georgia will be no trouble tomorrow.  Take LSU.
  • Wisconsin vs. Michigan State: Michigan State won on a hail Mary the last time these two teams played, effectively ending any hope Wisconsin might have had at playing for a championship.  In the words of the Who: "We won't be fooled again",  Take Wisconsin.
  • Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State: We talked about a Georgia win putting a monkey wrench in the LSU-Alabama rematch scenario, but here's one more: If Oklahoma State crushes Oklahoma (and I'm talking by 30 points or more) OSU could pass Alabama in the computer rankings.  While I am a big fan of the Cowboys this year, it's going to be hard to crush OU. Take Oklahoma State, but don't expect a rout.

Pro

  • Kansas City vs. Chicago: The much anticipated matchup between Tyler Palco and Caleb Hanie is almost here!  Kansas City's secret weapon is former Bear Kyle Orton who could come off the bench to direct the Chiefs offense.  Still, it's hard for me to believe the Bears are that bad.  Take Chicago.
  • Denver vs. Minnesota: Tim Tebow brings his traveling road show to Minnesota.  These are two really bad teams, but, as I said last week, Tebow finds a way to win.  You can laugh all you want at his religious beliefs or the way he throws or whatever, but going back to his college career, the man gets it done.  Take Denver.
  • NY J-E-T-S Jets, Jets, Jets vs. Washington: This is a big game for the Jets.  If their defense can't shut down Rex Grossman, they don't deserve to be in the playoffs.  Take the J-E-T-S Jets, Jets, Jets..
  • Green Bay vs. New York Giants: I learned my lesson last week where somehow I convinced myself Detroit could upset the Packers.  The Giants defense was horrible last week against New Orleans.  Green Bay is a similar type team.  Take Green Bay.
  • Detroit vs. New Orleans: Detroit is hurt by injuries and stupidness. I guarantee you on a national broadcast Sunday night if one Lions player even breathes on Drew Brees, they'll be jacked up for fifteen yards.  Without a boy named Suh, the Lions pass rush won't be as good and Brees will have fun shredding their secondary. Take New Orleans.
