Favre A Bear? Are You Kidding Me?

Ever since the injury to Bears Quarterback Jay Cutler, Bear fans have clamored for an established quarterback to ride to their rescue.  The Caleb Hanie experiment has gone horribly wrong, and there are some that believe that an established NFL quarterback, in the twilight of his career could somehow ride to the Bears rescue.

Kids, that isn't going to happen.

The two leading contenders in the clubhouse are Donovan McNabb and Brett Favre. If you look at it logically, you will understand why neither one has a chance to help anyone, let alone the Bears.

McNabb had a horrible year last year in Washington last season.  How do you define horrible?  He was benched in favor of Rex Grossman. That should tell you all you need to know.

But wait, there's more.  McNabb signed with Minnesota this season and was so awful, he was cut so the Vikings could play rookie Christian Ponder.  If McNabb were smart, his next call wouldn't be to Houston or the Bears, it would be to ESPN or the NFL Network for an analyst gig.  Stick a fork in him, he's done.

Then, there are those ugly rumors that started yesterday regarding the Elderly Hillbilly.  The wallpaper on my computer at home is a picture of Favre, in a Vikings uniform, lying in a crumpled heap after being taken out by the Bears Cory Wooten.  Brian Urlacher is standing over him.  It was the last play of Favre's career and the way I always want to remember him: down, out and done.  It doesn't make up for all the years he and The Walrus were flogging the Stuttering Dave led Bears, but it sure is nice.

Besides, the Bears can't provide Favre with the tools he would need to be successful.  Audibles aren't allowed in Mike Martz's offense.  The porous Bears offensive line would be charged with being a party to elderly abuse.  Can you imagine the conversation in the Bears huddle after another Roy Williams or Johnny Knox drop? No, Favre is best served stalking the woods for Bambi or plowing his north forty.

Honestly, the thought of Favre in a Bears uniform makes me want to hurl.
